Our Invitation to You

We recognise that moving to a secondary school is a milestone in a young person's school career. We know that for parents, choosing the right school for your child is an important decision to have to make. We work hard to help and support you so that the transfer to Wednesfield High School is achieved successfully for all.

We always welcome visitors into school and invite you to arrange a time with us to see the School at work. In addition, prospective Year 7 pupils and their families are given opportunities to discover all that Wednesfield High School has to offer at our Open Days held in the Autumn Term.

If you would like your child to enrol at Wednesfield High School please contact school to arrange an appointment to discuss the details with us. We know how important it is for you to be able to talk to us and we encourage you to contact us should you have any queries about anything that you may have read here.

Our Year 7 intake from different Primary Schools in Wolverhampton, Staffordshire and Walsall, shows the school to be oversubscribed for 2008. We expect every student who joins us to accept and maintain our high standard in appearance, behaviour and achievement.

This prospectus can only give a brief summary of the high standards of education that our school provides. Should you wish to see any of our documentation, this is available upon request as we operate an open access policy.

Wednesfield High School believes in allowing all pupils the opportunity for real and meaningful success in every aspect of their education.

We believe in opportunity for all and provide a happy, encouraging and caring place for children to learn.

Sixth Form

The School Sixth Form is steadily growing with more and more young people opting to continue their full-time education at Wednesfield High School. Half of our Year 11 youngsters stay on to pursue either 'A' levels, GNVQ's or other individually tailored programmes of study designed to help them succeed in the workplace when they leave school.

We expect Sixth Formers to take a full and active part in the life of the School. This may be through joining in teams, or taking part in a senior drama production, being involved in the Duke of Edinburgh Award or community service. At the same time we recognise that Sixth Formers are young adults and we encourage them to be disciplined, self-motivated and independent learners.

School Life

We make every effort to create a pleasant and supportive environment for our students. We know that happy and secure students will make the most of their opportunities at school. We have high expectations of both attitude and behaviour and expect students to attend every day in full school uniform.

All the students are encouraged to take part in a wide range of activities and experiences, contributing fully to the life of the school and the community. In doing so they will learn to recognise their own worth, work well with others and become increasingly responsible for their own learning.

The school operates a house system which is led by a Head of House who has overall responsibility for the welfare of the students in their House. Students are placed in vertical tutor groups within the house system and wherever possible we keep family groups together. In keeping with our engineering status the houses are based on famous engineers:

Brunel House

Darby House

Eddison House

Telford House

Students will, wherever possible, have the same form tutor throughout their time at Wednesfield High who will get to know them well and will be involved with regular review and guidance. We rely very much on building effective relationships with parents in order to ensure each child is supported to achieve their full potential.

You are welcome in school at any time to discuss your child with us but it is wise to make an appointment so as to ensure staff are available to speak to you.

Parents’ Evenings and Target Setting days are held throughout the year giving you the opportunity to meet subject teachers and form tutors.

The School Council

The School Council play a very active and important part in school life. We believe it is essential for students to have a ‘voice’ and directly influence what goes on in school. They are involved in whole school issues such as the design of the planners, healthy eating, learning styles and the interviewing and appointing of staff. They have also represented the school at Local Authority events.

Each form is represented on the House Council and each House has 5 representatives on the School Council. Meetings are held every two weeks.
