The Curriculum
Key Stage 3
During Key Stage 3 in PE your child will learn about the following:
- How to outwit an opponent
- How to perform at maximum levels
- How to accurately replicate actions
- How to solve problems
- Healthy lifestyles, relating this specifically to exercise and sports activities
- The qualities of a good leader and how to develop these through PE lessons
They will carry out the following modules:
- Outwitting opponents: activity blocks from netball, football, netball, football, rugby, basketball, badminton, cricket, rounder’s, tennis, cricket and rounder’s
- Performing at maximum levels: athletics and swimming
- Accurate replication of actions: gymnastics and swimming
- Healthy lifestyles and leadership are taught throughout the curriculum in years 7, 8 and 9.
To support your child’s learning you can:
- Ensure they have the correct PE kit each week
- Encourage them to take an active part in all lessons, especially in activities they might find more challenging
- Encourage them to participate in extra-curricular PE activities

Key Stage 4
During Key Stage 4 in PE your child will learn about the following:
- Advanced skills to outwit an opponent
- Accurate replicate of actions to a higher standard
- Leadership skills and qualities that are developed through sport
They will carry out the following modules:
- Outwitting opponents: activity blocks from netball, football, rugby, basketball, cricket ,rounder’s, tennis,
- Performing at maximum levels: athletics and swimming
- Solving problems: orienteering, lifesaving
- Accurate replication of actions: gymnastics, trampolining
- Healthy lifestyles are taught throughout the KS4 curriculum
- Opportunities are available for students to take specific sports leaders qualifications in year 10
To support your child’s learning you can:
- Ensure they have the correct PE kit each week Encourage them to take an active part in all lessons, especially in activities they might find more challenging
- Encourage them to participate in extra-curricular PE activities
Qualifications students can take in sport:
Level 2 Extended certificate in Sport (double award)
They will complete the following modules:
Practical sport, Fitness testing and training, Leadership in Sport, The body in sport
Students can attain a pass, merit or distinction grade
