Engineering the future
Wednesfield High School became a Specialist Engineering College
on the 1st September 2004.
Engineering influences all our lives – whether it’s the car that transports us, the medical equipment that keeps us healthy, the TV that entertains us, the telephone that keeps us in touch with the ones we know. All are designed and built using engineering skills. From its traditional ‘metal bashing’ image, engineering in the 21st Century is a discipline driven by innovative design, cutting-edge technology and some of the finest brains in Britain.
Wednesfield High School sits in the heart of the old Black Country – home to the 19th and 20th Century’s key engineering achievements. It is especially fitting, therefore, that we have become the only Engineering Specialist School in Wolverhampton and one of very few in the whole country offering State-of-the-Art facilities for the engineers of the future.
As an Engineering Specialist School our Specialist subjects are Maths, Science, Technology and ICT.
Q. Do I have to become an Engineer if I attend Wednesfield High School?
A. No – of course not.
Our Aims are to:
• Raise standard of Achievement for all students in the specialist subjects and across the whole curriculum.
• Strengthen and develop the quality of teaching in the specialist subjects and use this to help raise standards throughout the school in all subjects.
• Extend enrichment opportunities for additional learning through the specialist subjects, including links with the private sector sponsors, business, further and higher education, to raise achievement by encouraging a broader understanding of the relationships between subjects and responding to students needs and interests.
Being a Specialist School means that we are awarded extra funds to help us improve by extending opportunities for your child. This will mean a better deal for every child in terms of their learning and teaching experiences. We aim for better results, maximising every child’s potential in every subject.
Wednesfield High School is supported by some of the areas leading employers, the school will contribute positively to the future prosperity of the country helping it to compete in a global market with a highly skilled workforce growing.
The reputation for excellence, which the school enjoys, will help raise the profile of engineering as a discipline but also raise opportunities and therefore standards in all subjects.
