Building Schedule

Preparation work for our new buildings began back in February 2011. The past 2 years have seen  great progress which has transformed our school. Phase 1 has been completed and handed over. We can boast now of a brand new Drama Studio, a new Kitchen and Dining Hall, new Music Recital room, Music Ensemble room, Fitness Studio and a brand new Activity Studio. These facilities have been greeted enthusiastically by students, staff and visitors alike.

The second element of Phase 1 includes a Sports Hall with changing rooms, a new Community Entrance and Reception as well as a new area for use by our 6th Formers. At the same time as these developments have been taking place, much of the old frontage has been removed from the Lichfield site to make way for the building of Phase 2. This stage of the project was completed in June 2012. We now have a brand new Engineering Hall and also several new Science laboratories and teaching rooms. This second phase also includes a 170-seat Lecture Theatre.

June 2012 also saw the commencement of the final Phase. This includes the total refurbishment and modernisation of the main Lichfield teaching block. Away with the old, narrow corridors and in with the light and spacious 21st Century learning facility – flexible and open learning spaces with seminar rooms, 60- seater 3D Theatre, snack areas and zones for students to complete private study. We are truly excited that these new facilities are available from February 2013. Several events are being planned to celebrate the opening – including a Community Open Day to advertise the amenities to the general public.

All of the above facilities have, from September 2012, been supported by a new ICT system. This includes not only site-wide WiFi but also an impressive variety of devices that students can use to perform tasks to help prepare them for an increasingly digital world.

Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of those people who have made this transformation possible – from the Local Authority, Designers and Architects, Local Education Partnership, Public Art, Carillion and Capita, as well as all the Governors, staff and students, and members of the local community, including many companies, who have contributed ideas and suggestions as well as time and support.

Well done and thank you.
